This workshop is the classic workshop we have offered over the years.  Annette will be teaching styling lessons while showing you how to style for the camera and then photograph your images with your camera or iPhone.

There will be excursions to the farmers markets, along with a free day which includes your choice of excursions. You will receive lessons in work flow, the business of styling and how to give your brand a presence on social media. There will be an opportunity to delve into your own business and plenty of one on one with Annette. All lessons will be conducted on the grounds and in the gorgeous photo studio situated in the stone barn. You will spend time using the vast prop collection in the studio, as well as shop for your own collection at Annette's favorite haunts and flea markets. This is an opportunity to work with a stylist and producer with 25 + years of experience in the highly competitive world of editorial styling. Annette will be collaborating on the weekend with one of Italy’s top stylists and editors, Barbara Pederzini. See how styling is done “Italian Style” as Barbara shares her techniques and styling philosophy. This is a rare opportunity to meet and work with an Italian professional in the field.

This workshop is great for aspiring stylists and photographers, professional bloggers, and artisan makers and manufacturers, cookbook authors. Improve your style and your brand amid the gorgeous landscape of Italy. Join us. This workshop is limited to 7 students, with 2 shared rooms, 3 private rooms

$3,900.00 there are 3 private rooms and 2 shared rooms, first come first serve when it comes to private occupancy.

Fee includes accommodations, all breakfasts, and all instruction and class-related excursions. Lunch and some dinners may be included but not guaranteed.

Note: Airfare is not included. Students fly into nearest airport which is Pisa, Italy. There are no airport pick-ups. You are responsible for transportation to and from the workshop to La Fortezza as well as to and from town for meals. We strongly recommend that you plan to hire a car service or rent a car. There are no taxis.

All attendees traveling from the United States are required to purchase short term international travel health insurance. Proof of travel insurance will be required to attend any workshop.

Travel Information:

Book your flight to Pisa. It is 1 hour and 15 minutes from La Fortezza's front door in Lunigiana. 

Car:

As there are no local taxi services in the countryside, we recommend guests arrive by rental car as it gives the maximum amount of freedom. 

Note: Once you are registered for a workshop, you will be able to reach out to fellow attendees through a private Facebook group to arrange ride-sharing. Please contact Annette with any additional questions.

The Instructor:

Annette Joseph, acclaimed food and prop stylist, will be teaching basics of intermediate and advanced styling and photography techniques plus the business of styling, work flow and production. You'll learn how to get work, how to get published, and how to build your prop inventory.

The Setting –  The Fortress

The Fortress, the Joseph's Tuscan summer home and workshop location, is nestled in the heart of Northern Tuscany a region known as the Lunigiana. The medieval stone compound sits on 27 acres, on the grounds are Roman ruins, a river and the vineyard. The Fortress has a breathtaking view of the Apennine mountains & the marble-topped Apuane Alps and the valley below. The property is surrounded by olive groves, chestnut trees, and fruit orchards. The Fortress was a medieval defensive tower in a region that had over 120 castles and kingdoms to protect in the 15th century. On the property there are 3 outbuildings, a massive terrace, and a private living quarters. You can wander the grounds with camera in hand and capture the Italian country life during your stay

1:30 pm - Arrivals at The Fortress - light lunch
2:30- 6:30 pm - Relax, nap, and unpack
6:30 pm - Meet and greet Aperitivo on the terrace with cocktails and nibbles
7:30 pm - Welcome dinner on the terrace to follow

Thursday, June 13th
9:00- 10:00 am - Breakfast
10:00 - noon - Lectures and PowerPoint presentation on styling and composition for photography
12:00 pm - Lunch on the grounds
1:00 - 4:00 pm - Hands-on demo styling for still life (you will be participating in set-ups all afternoon)
4:00 - 6:30 - Free time
6:30 - Aperitivo on the terrace
7:30 - Dinner on your own

Friday, June 14th
9:00 - 10:00 am – Breakfast
10:00 - noon - Morning group forum: workflow for production, business tips for styling, editorial styling, working with editorial publications, how to pitch, & getting the job
12:00 - 1:00 pm - Picnic on the grounds
1:00 - 5:00 pm - You will be producing a real photoshoot on your own
5:00 - 6:00 - Free time
6:30 - Aperitivo on the terrace
7:30 - Group dinner on the terrace

Saturday, June 15th
9:00 - 10:00 am – Breakfast
10:00- 4:30pm - All day antique prop shopping excursion. Lesson includes putting together a prop room. Lunch at the Flea Market. 
5:30 - 6:30 - Free time
6:30 - Dinner on your own
