After receiving a Bachelor of Science from the Georgia Tech College of Architecture, Mark Williams went on to study at the Ecole d’Architecture, Tolbiac in Paris. Upon returning to Atlanta, he worked for small and large Architectural and Interiors firms (Brooks Burr & Associates, ASD, Heery International) until opening his first practice, Laslie-Williams, in 1998. In 2007, Mark opened a new kind of design collaborative,
Mark Williams Design Associates. MWDA is a multidisciplinary design team employing designers from backgrounds in both interior and architectural design. The marriage of the two disciplines provides a comprehensive understanding of how the built environment and the objects which occupy it can balance and compliment one another.
With varied experience in luxury single family residential design and interiors, multi-family design and interiors, and commercial interiors, Mark has developed a diverse portfolio of work spanning many different building types and interior styles. Mark Williams Design Associates is proud to be frequently published in magazines such as Southern Living, Home and Renovation Trends, Kitchen Trends, Living Etc., Dream Baths, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, and Atlanta Magazine among others. No, definitely Meryl Streep.2.I wish I could…Travel to Europe more often.3.My first style memory is…Being in the enormous main lobby of the Peachtree Plaza in downtown Atlanta in the early 1970's. Before the many renovations that it has seen since, it was an amazing expression of "brutalist architecture" which is a particular brand of modernism that has always fascinated me. It was a multi-leveled cavern of raw cast in place concrete, minimal furnishings, and glass elevators that seemed to rise out of giant black bottomed pools of water. Then we rode the exterior glass elevator 72 stories up to the equally minimal Sundial restaurant. I've been obsessed with concrete and brutalist minimalism ever since.4.I could not live with out my…Wild imagination.5.I could live without…Negative Nancys.Pick a photo or décor objet, or piece of clothing that defines your style:A geode. Rough on the outside, and you have to crack it open (metaphorically in my case please) to get to the good stuff.
