House Hunting in Italy

For seven years my family has summered at our home by the sea on the Italian Riviera. Before owning our own little slice of Italy we spent some 20 years here every summer with our children. We alternated renting houses and staying along the coastline with friends both American and Italian. Needless to say, we feel very much at home here. My Italian has improved mainly because the little town we live in very few speak English, which is good, very good.One thing you know about me if you stop by the blog regularly is that I am a girl that loves a project. So this year is the year that I will begin a new chapter in Italy with my husband. I have been house hunting this week. The truth is I have been house hunting in earnest this week. I looked briefly last summer and I found  an amazing property. It's up high over looking the sea, with a medieval tower. Frankly when they showed me the property they had me at medieval tower. It's the former summer residence of an Italian Marchese, from Genova.Below is the property I looked at this week. No one has lived there in 100 years and it was built around 1500. It has original terracotta pavers and amazing views. It's definitely a fixer upper. It's a project for sure. It's set high above one of our favorite medieval towns, and on one of my husband's favorite bike routes.Here's the Wes Anderson Horror Film Home we were shown yesterday. It totally creeped me out and I loved it all at the same time. What an awesome location for a creepy photo-shoot, right? In Italy obviously staging the house for sale is not a thing...LOL.The thing about house hunting in Italy is that you never know what you will fall into, literally.
