To market ...to market we go!
As you all know I am a professional shopper, as a stylist one is always looking for new outlets + products, props and of course inspiration. I always score in Italy, never fails. And outdoor markets are a constant source of great inspiration and of course shopping! In my last post I spoke of the great outdoor markets in Italy all summer. One of the best markets is in the Tuscan beach town , Forte dei Marmi. ( Fort of Marble, actually it is referred to as the Italian Hamptons,) near the marble quarries of Carrara...( more on that subject in my next post)
The Market offers everything from , handbags, clothing (lots of linen), cashmere sweaters and shawls, housewares and shoes, you can even find fur coats and skiwear.
I have over the years taken many people to this market located 2 1/2 hours from my home, it is worth the trip and a beautiful drive along the coast to boot.
The market is only on Wed. and Sun.( Sunday only in the summer July -August) from 8:30-1:30 pm.
Last year I took a good friend of mine Barbara Milo Ohrbach, she has seen it all and to my surprise she said it was the best market she had been to. This year I took my Italian girlfriend, Henriette (via Norway) and great photographer friend Deborah Whitlaw Llewellyn We spent the morning wondering from stall to stall. Deborah had a very successful shopping day, I found a beautiful cashmere shawl, perfect for carrying on the plane + I bought a panama hat for the beach ( but I really bought the hat because it looks great hanging in my hallway, so I guess it is technically a prop) .We bought adorable beach bags for Henriette's daughters, 3 and 7 years old.
Great day at the market, we then made our way to Pietrasanta for lunch with my friends, and a tour of marble quarries in Cararra. More about the amazing marble quarry tour next time....
